Upcoming event: Symposium Honderd jaar Vrede van Versailles
Exactly 100 years ago, on June 28 1919, the treaty of Versailles was signed. With the "Peace of Versailles" after four years of devastating trench war, the First World War ended. After the ceasefire of november 1918, it took more than six months before the allies could agree on the conditions. Defeated Germany was only allowed to sign at the cross.
On June the 29th, the WFA together with the Stichting Studiecentrum Eerste Wereldoorlog organizes the symposium Honderd jaar Vrede van Versailles. Together, we will reflect on this milestone in history and dive deeper into establishment, content and (in)direct consequences of the treaty.
The meeting will take place at the LocHal in Tilburg (the Netherlands) and amongst the guest speakers will be the prominent historian Thomas von der Dunk. Of course, Aris Gaaff is largely involved in the organization and will himself hold a lecture about the exact contents of the treaty.
